RATT's Warren DeMartini and his Guitars

When I think of  LA,  I think about the good old days.    The days when spandex and stiletto heels walked the Strip.  Then oddly  George Lynch, Jake E Lee, and Warren De Martini comes to mind.  People wanted to become these Iconic figures.  So did I.  To think that these three once shared the same roof is beyond crazy.  Warren talks about playing riffs on the couch with Jake that later became, "Bark At the Moon".  How can three friends become Guitar Hero's of our time.  I had my personal moments with George.  The unforgettable show with Jake at The Stone in San Francisco where he would point at a fan before playing a tune and he would personally hand the used pick to the chosen ONE.  8/3/2010  was the first time for me to actually watch Warren perform up close.  The dream interview I had prepared for the Metal Moment Podcast did not materialize due to last minute scheduling issues but the chance to stand by his Crossed Swords and Frenchie, and his two Snake Skin guitars back stage was just incredible.  This Frenchie is a Charvel San Dimas Warren DeMartini Signature Prototype made back in 2006.  (note: the Frenchie never materialized due to the script being owned by the James Dean Foundation).  The Crossed Swords you see here is the original piece made by Charvel Parts and painted by Glenn Matejzel back in 1984.  (note: you can tell by the two chips on the lower horn, and the chip on the headstock).   The next piece you see is the real Snake Skin guitar that was made by Performance Guitar in HollyWood California as a backup in 1992. (note: no two skins are the same.  The skin patterns of the Python on the neck indicates the piece).  The last one in the back is the most recent Warren DeMartini signature Charvel Dinky Snake Prototype  painted by Dan Lawrence.  As you may have noticed, I am a guitar graphics freak.  Guitars with graphics are the sexiest pieces of art in the World.  I'll talk about the individual artists in another Episode of the Metal Moment Podcast in the near future.  The show started an hour and 45 min behind schedule (long story) but, all the RATT n' Rollers had a blast.  いや〜なんて言って良いのか。Warren のあのギターにやっと出あえましたよ。1984年に作られグレン・マテーゾルの手によって塗られたCrossed Swords Charvel.  ライブ自体はサウンドが今一でしたがこれはサウンド・チェックをちゃんとしなかったせいですな。ともあれ、51才にもなる Stephen Pearcy もまだちゃんと歌えるし Warren のギターさばきも昔と変わらずでした。

While I was in Tokyo I visited ESP in Shibuya. They had the last 4. You know who has a killer pedal collection? Jake E. Lee. Where are you Jake?

FrankenGuitars Kitazawa Tokyo JAPAN 5150 Time

I stopped by this store called Franken Guitars. The owner is a certified Eddie Van Halen, Joe Holmes, freak. He builds these replica guitars using various necks and body parts. You can get a Kramer 5150 relic, Ibanez EVH Destroyer, The black and white with the faded Gibson logo, the Peavey Wolfgang Bumble Bee …..and on and on and on. you get the point. The ultimate Store for us GuitarHeads. One of the nicest guitars I played there was the Brad Gillis Relic. Sister Christian all the way. Japan Is a country where a fanatic will open a shop and do it right. For instance, I can order a Kramer 5150 guitar the way it looked back in 1987 and the man will find a pic and replicate the exact look. Now that is what I call LOVE. So basicly, You can order this guitar in different phases of its life. The thought Still blows me away. Another guitar that played great was a used one made by Performance Guitars in Hollywood. Mr. Sugai is the Man who perfected the Snake Skin Guitar for Warren DeMartini (btw, the new album from RATT "Infestation" kicks ass). This particular guitar was just like Nuno bettencourt's N4 supporting a Reverse head stock loaded with Bill Lawrence L-500’s and a Seymour Duncan '59 in the neck position. The body was made out of Hawaiian koa just like Warren DeMartini’s Performance Consier Model. Long story short there is a store for everyone in Japan. Small but packed with super cool and rare goodies! Guitar Project Begins Today

I sent off the Photoshopped 'CHIAKI Brand Prototype", image of the guitar to Dan Lawrence in Los Angeles last month. He likes the design and gave me the thumbs up. I have spent the last month looking for a luthier that can actually build me a body and neck to my specs. We all know what we like in terms of the feel of the neck and the body, but I needed someone that can translate that into actual dimensions. The radius the nut width, the exact measurements of the neck etc. etc. I think I found the perfect man that can become a huge part of this project. A small door to a huge Future LOL! 一月かけてやっとギターのボデーとネックを作ってくれる人物を見つけ上げる事が出来ました。去年の１１月にロスに在住する７０年代から数多くのミュージシャンのギター＆ベース・グラフィックを塗って来た男にデザインを送り話を進めて来ました。彼は　Eddie Van Halen, George Lynch, Warren De Martini, Slash, Zakk, Zappa....... と取りあえずMTVでおなじみのギターをすべて塗って来た人物です。そのダン・ローレンンス氏に今回のプロジェクト参加してもらいます。　今日からプロジェクト本格的に開始です。

Can you get any closer than this! Mr. Scary Guitar

You can't get any closer then this. Its the real deal. Lynch's Skull n' Bones guitar crafted by ESP Guitars for George. Its actually lighter than it looks. This one was carved out by a CNC machine. The original one had Cherry Wood additions added onto an Alder body. There is a whole story behind this guitar. Gerry Ganaden talked about the original J. Frog guitar and then some.
